If you want to find Ukraine on a map, the easiest way is to start with the regional sea, which deserves to be called the Mediterranean, however is called the Black Sea thanks to the amazing properties of its bottom. Deep in the sea there
is the Crimean Peninsula which has long been famous for its caressing sun with healing effect, warm coast, juicy grapes and picturesque rocks.

Looking up, you will come across the mouth of the most important (but not the largest – the largest one is the Danube) Ukrainian river Dnipro paving almost half of its way of over two thousand kilometers in Ukraine. There used to be the vastness of the boundless steppes, and now, the grasslands, gardens, and mudslides flourish here in magnificent chernozem soil.

In the south-eastern part of the country, the Ukrainian industry with leading mining and machine-building sectors is centered. In the west, the forest covered Carpathian Mountains with the highest point Mount Hoverla (2,061 m) are located.

Moving on along the Dnipro River north-wards (by the way, the Greek historian Herodotus once did that, and then described our land with enthusiasm), you will inevitably see the largest city of Ukraine and its capital, Kyiv.

People from the Stone Age settled this convenient trade area between the picturesque hills on the bank of a large river, which was favourable to defense. According to legend, Kyiv was founded by three brothers Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv and their sister Lybid, and now there are about three million residents in Kyiv. Almost a millennium ago, Kyiv was the capital of Rus, a powerful medieval principality.

In 988 Volodymyr the Great, one of the most famous Russian rulers, accepted Christianity here, making it an official state religion. In 1019 Prince Yaroslav the Wise, renowned for his cultural and educational activities, created a set of laws – one of the first European constitutions. In 1484 Kyiv received the Magdeburg Law. In times when the land was under foreign domination, the ancient city was the center of national patriotic resisance. After the accession of Ukraine to the Soviet Union for some time, Kharkiv became the capital city. At present, Kyiv is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with a great number of historical monuments of various times, including Golden Gate, St. Sofia, St. Andrew’s Descent, Khreshchatyk, Mariinskyi Palace and others. There are many theatres, museums, concert halls, and art galleries in Kyiv. A great number of young people from different corners of Ukraine and the world study at the prestigious higher educational institutions of the capital.

However, it is impossible to get to know this only
from the map. It is also impossible to find Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education on any map of the world. And even colorful photos from our booklet are not capable of conveying the fullness of scientific life in academic environment, the importance and responsibility of the work performed by physicians at clinical sites.

That is why we invite you to visit Kyiv to see not only one of the most prestigious and a leading higher educational institution in the field of postgraduate education in Ukraine, but also to join its friendly team.
