The Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine continues to hold free elective classes for doctors on Saturdays. On June 10th, therapists, cardiologists, family doctors, infectious disease specialists, neurologists, and emergency medicine physicians gathered for an online meeting.

The elective is aimed at educating doctors on the resolution of the most important medical problems based on current recommendations and authoritative research.

Particularly important for Ukraine now are the problems associated with the undermining of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. What should doctors expect? How can to help? Which infections should be expected primarily? How to correctly prescribe antibiotics and what indications should be considered? All these questions are presented in the presentation by prof. Olga Holubovska,head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at National Medical University.

Prof. Denis Sebov, chief physician of Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 10 in Odessa, and a non-staff cardiologist at the Odessa Department of Health, raised the issue of secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and achieving compliance with combination therapy in his speech: "Singpill/polypill strategy in effective prevention of cardiovascular diseases."

The frequency of cerebral stroke in the world is 9 million people annually, and the number of patients in the population who have had a stroke and survived is 30 million people. One of the main questions in medicine today is how to prevent this and reduce patient disability. Therefore, prof., Dr. Anton Volosovets, head of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, provided a comprehensive overview of updated recommendations for ischemic stroke prevention based on ASA 2021 recommendations.

The lecture by prof. Marina Dolzhenko, head of the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine: "Multi-organ involvement in atherosclerosis: diagnosis, treatment, prevention," focused on the variability of blood pressure in patients with atherosclerosis, which is a risk factor for mortality according to the 2023 Consensus on Blood Pressure Variability. The professor emphasized the importance of identifying dipper and non-dipper patients and being attentive to prescribing hypolipidemic therapy.
