Among the main priorities in the work of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine (Head of the Department - Professor Serhiy Savolyuk) is a practically-oriented scientific search, which involves the preparation of promising scientific personnel for the department's personnel reserve from among postgraduate students and the solution of complex surgical tasks at the modern scientific level at the clinical bases of the department.

That is why such great attention is paid to working with postgraduate students, whose certification took place at the department on April 11. Since the work of the department is focused on surgical innovations with their introduction into the work of the departments of the clinical bases of the department, the choice of scientific issues is focused on problematic aspects of modern surgical science.

Currently, the department is carrying out 9 dissertation research projects under the scientific supervision of the head of the department, Professor Serhiy Savolyuk. and Professor Valentyn Khodos, the topics of which reflect modern aspects and trends in the development of minimally invasive surgery - minimally invasive endovenous phlebology (Melnychuk G., Zabirchenko K., Ivchuk O.), minimally invasive low-traumatic proctology (Pochechuev D., Veselovsky Yu.), laparoscopic general abdominal surgery and simultaneous operations (Kruglyak E.).

The war changed the priorities of our work, including the work of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery and its format, transferring it to a 24-hour regime at the clinical bases of the department and changing the issues, in particular the treatment and prevention of complications of combat trauma of the extremities and soft tissue defects - Lipnytskyi V., Karlovskyi A. The certification of postgraduate students at the departmental meeting of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery demonstrated the high motivation and immersion in surgical issues of our PhD candidates.
