On October 31, a training session entitled “Evidence-Based Medicine. Research Training” was held at NMAPE in the context of cooperation with the Karolinska Institute. Over 120 academic staff members, postgraduate students, including the students of thematic advanced training course “Public Health in Ukraine: Development Strategies” from all regions of our country attended the event.

Over 120 academic staff members, postgraduate students, including the students of thematic advanced training course “Public Health in Ukraine: Development Strategies” from all regions of our country attended the event.

The Rector of the Academy Yuriy Voronenko introduced the guest lecturers Sigurt Vitol (Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services) and Tommy Linne (International Cooperation Project Coordinator of the Karolinska Institute). In his opening speech the Rector outlined the vision of the scientists’ role in the complex process of achieving the high efficiency of the national health care system; he highlighted the achievements in implementing the principles of evidence-based medicine and wished the participants effective work.

The training session participants listened to the reports of Full Professor Sigurt Vitol on organization of the health care system and implementation of the principles of evidence-based medicine in Sweden, Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Statistics of NMAPE Oleh Tonkovyd, who described the principles of multicriteria analysis and their application, Full Professor Tommy Linne on the experience of research training in Sweden.

There were also discussed some aspects of the treatment of common non-communicable diseases (for example, the use of statins) and the optimal use of international experience in reforming health care and educational systems in Ukraine.
