On May 16-18, 2019, the 8th Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES) took place in the picturesque city of Granada (Andalusia, Spain).

On the forum, which united over 1,000 delegates from all over the world, the  Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education was represented by the delegate Glagoleva A. (MD, PhD student) from the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, who is performing dissertation work under the direction of the head of the department Savoliuk S (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor).

The scientific program of the Congress was extremely rich, covering sections of the all issues of modern endocrine surgery with emphasis on minimally invasive and less traumatic surgical interventions. Among this scientific diversity, it should be noticed that there is a strong interest in retroperitoneal laparoscopic access to the adrenal glands and safe non-invasive surgical treatment of benign and malignant neoplasms accompanied by a number of endocrine syndromes. Glagoleva A. (MD, PhD student) presented a poster report of collective work (including Cherenko S. (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor), Lysenko V.(MD, PhD, Assosiate Professor) and Zavertylenko D. (MD, PhD student), who is completing his Ph.D. thesis under the guidance of the head of the department, Professor Savoliuk S. on modern laparoscopic surgery of morbid obesity).

Report was on the Treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism after laparoscopic gastroplication and sleeve resection of the stomach in patients with morbid obesity – and summarized the work of the department devoted to the analysis of the long-term results of endocrine aspects of metabolic and bariatric laparoscopic surgery. Scientific novelty of the report caused a lively discussion and a large number of questions among the members of the organizing committee of the Congress, which allowed us to get the necessary contacts for future scientific cooperation of the team of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery with the leading surgical centers of Europe.
