Employees of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Shupyk NMAPE (O.A. Loskutov, M.V. Bondar, O.A. Galushko, Y.I. Markov, I.A. Kuchynska) in co-authorship with MD Professor B.M. Todorov and MD E. Humeniuk published a textbook "Assessment of the preoperative status of the patient and preparation for surgery" (Kyiv, 2019, 228 p.)

The basic principles of preoperative assessment of the condition of adult patients and methods of their preparation for anesthesia and surgery are presented in the paper.

Particular attention is paid to anesthesia measures (management) of preoperative preparation of patients with various somatic pathology.

The textbook is intended for anesthesiologists, intensive care unit physicians, surgeons, trainees of thematic improvement courses in anesthesiology and intensive care, interns of anesthesiologists, and specialties of surgical profile.

The authors hope that the recommendations given in this textbook for comprehensive preoperative examination and specific preparation for surgery and anesthesia of patients with various surgical pathologies will help to avoid or significantly reduce the incidence of intraoperative complications.

This will be a significant step towards implementing the international patient safety initiatives presented in «the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers Committee Recommendations on Patient Safety Management and Preventing Health Complications / Incidents».
