On November 7 - 8, 2019, the World Congress of the International Medical Science Academy - IMSACON 2019 was held in Ankara, Turkey. The congress was held on the premises of Turkey's largest BASKENT University. The main topic of the congress was «Medical Infections», but other issues of medicine and surgery were also discussed.

NMAPO named after PL Shupik was represented by KOLESNIKOV Evgeni Borisovich, Professor of the Department of General and Emergency Surgery (Head of the Department Prof. VV Krizhevsky) with two reports: 1) ACUTE BOWEL OBSTRUCTION: 18 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF THE SPECIALIZED CITY SURGICAL CENTER (with co-autors)  and

2) MORBID OBESITY AS A SOMATIC AND AESTHETIC PROBLEM IN 21st CENTURY MEDICINE: BODY CONTOURING OPERATIONS AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY AND WEIGHT LOSS

The reports aroused great interest and allowed the international scientific and medical community to evaluate the achievements of Ukrainian science. The materials presented at the congress this year were the second part of a scientific and clinical study on the surgical treatment of morbid obesity, a very important global problem for humanity of the 21st century.

The first part of this project was called «MORBID OBESITY AS SOMATIC AND AESTHETIC PROBLEM IN 21st CENTURY MEDICINE: SURGICAL TREATMENT OF MORBIDLY OBESE PATIENTS», which was presented on August 24, 2018 at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in collaboration with the International Medical Science Academy in Glasgow, UK. In the second report – «PIONEERING IN THE LAPAROSCOPIC SURGICAL TREATMENT OF ACUTE NECROTIZING PANCREATITIS», Professor KOLESNIKOV EB told about his experience of pioneering in the development and introduction laparoscopic technologies in pancreatic surgery. It was done for the first time in the world in the early 80's of the last century. This information was met with great interest by surgeons, participating in the IMSACON Congress from around the world.

Leading scientists in the field of surgery and transplantology also spoke at the forum: Professor Nadey Hakim (President of the International College of Surgeons), representing the UK in an international team of surgeons who were the first to transplant hand,  and Professor M. Haberal (President of the World Society of Transplantologists), who performed the world's first combined liver and kidney transplant and also Professor David Galloway, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United Kingdom, and other famous scientists.

Professor KOLESNIKOV EB was elected to the International Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Great Britain. The high scientific achievements of Ukrainian scientists make it possible to raise the prestige of national medicine and our academy on the international arena.
