Today's challenges to the domestic health care system and postgraduate education in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic require systemic changes in approaches to the choice of methods and formats of training for medical professionals in cycles of thematic improvement.

The new conditions and requirements for the medical educational process in quarantine restrictions lead to transformations in educative process. That's why staff of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery with the leadership of its head Savoliuk S rebuilt and reformatted all curricula and programs of thematic improvement cycles in a remote format using modern telecommunications technologies.

Thus, for the 2-week cycle of thematic improvement "Sclerotherapy in  chronic diseases  of the lower extremities veins", which takes place according to the plan from 1 to 15 February 2021, registered 15 students - specialists from Mykolayiv (12), Zhytomyr (2) regions and Kyiv (1).

Interest in the curriculum is due to the opportunity to gain new knowledge, skills and techniques of minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of chronic diseases  of the lower extremities veins and its complicated forms (trophic ulcers), including comorbid patients with diabetes mellitus, in an outpatient setting, which is particularly advantageous in the new quarantine conditions, without requiring long-term hospitalization, reducing the risk of possible infection and spread of COVID-19.

The program of the cycle provides its remote format. Theoretical part in the form of the lecture course and seminars with clinical analysis, illustration of complex clinical cases from multimedia (photo and video archives). Practical classes include live streaming from the operating room, where teachers of the department - Savoliuk S. (head of the department, professor), Khodos V. (professor) in the form of live discussion and master classes perform minimally invasive phlebological operations and procedures, comment on preoperative and postoperative care of phlebological patients.

Thanks to telecommunication technologies, the presence of a huge photo and video archive of clinical cases and situations, the distance learning format turns into a lively interesting discussion, which arouses the interest of the audience to study in program cycles of thematic improvement at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of our academy.
