Valery Kuzmin, аssociate professor of the Department of Disaster Medicine and Military Medical Training Department, a subset of the medical faculty of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, for the eighth time during the full-scalestage of the war took part in providing medical aid to the frontline population ofsouthern Ukraine as a member of a specialized medical team of the Ministry of Health. This mission required a more active use of the “Novoodesamultidisciplinary hospital“ of the Mykolaiv region.
The task consisted of providing non-stop ambulatory and inpatient emergencysurgical care while assisted by the hospital staff. Outside of providing medical careValery Kuzmin gave two lectures and hosted three workshops for the hospitalstaff; the activities concerned BLS (basic life support) and ALS (advanced lifesupport) skill development, as well as conducting medical triage in cases of massadmission according to the unified civil-military protocols.
During the mission Valery Kuzmin used the experience gained in previousmissions similar to this one: multiple missions on the Ukrainian territory (beginning in February of 2022), including aiding the multiple trauma department of the faculty’s clinical base“ Kyiv City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Aid“, as well as international missions, such as the disasterrelief mission after the 1999 earthquakes in Turkey, medical aid missions in 2001in India, 2003 - in Iraq, 2005 - in Pakistan, under hostile conditions in Libya in 2011.
Since December, Valeriy Kuzmin has been using the experience gained during his missions in his lectures on military medical training for students of cycles and interns.
