On March 1, 2024, with the personal participation of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the Minister of Health of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Lyashko, international British experts led by Professor Denis Ugrin, a Ukrainian-British roundtable " Securing a Brighter Future: Post-War Adolescent Mental Health Recovery" will be held in London.
Professor Galyna Pyliagina, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine were invited to participate in this important event together with other Ukrainian specialists working in the field of mental health and providing medical and psychological assistance to children and adolescents.
The roundtable was organized by the Coordination Centre for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as part of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska. The implementation of this program ensures active and dynamic coordination and interaction of different state institutions, local governments, the non-governmental sector and the professional community (doctors, psychologists, etc.) with international partners to achieve the best tangible results in providing Ukrainian citizens with high-quality and affordable specialized medical care and psychosocial support. The key priority of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program is to ensure sustainability and strengthen the mental health of future generations of Ukrainians - our children, adolescents and youth.
An important aspect of this program is the quality training of mental health professionals, in which our University is directly involved. The thematic trainings and the cycles of specialization, conducted by the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology in the relevant specialties, are aimed at mastering the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the treatment and medical and psychological support of children, adolescents and young adults who have various mental disorders or are experiencing life difficulties, primarily related to the stress of war.
Participation in this Ukrainian-British roundtable is new step towards the introduction of European standards of training for doctors and psychologists in the educational process at the our University.
