With the participation of the staff of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine in the Obstetrics department of the Vyshgorod Central District Hospital, a successful delivery of a pregnant woman with a rare obstetric pathology - a bilobar placenta was carried out. The peculiarity of this case was the presence of umbilical cord vessels, not protected by Wharton's gel, which passed between the two parts of the placenta along the posterior wall of the uterus. Such a pathology is dangerous due to the high risk of rupture of these vessels, which could lead to antenatal fetal death.
The patient was examined by Professor Oleg Golyanovsky, head of the department, doctors of the obstetrics department, as well as postgraduate students and interns of the department. During the ultrasound examination, the diagnosis of bilobar placenta was confirmed, after which a decision was made to perform a planned cesarean section. The operation was performed at 38–39 weeks of pregnancy with the onset of the first contractions.
After the surgical intervention, the diagnosis was confirmed: a bilobar placenta with a small area of detachment of one of the parts of the placenta was detected, which did not affect the condition of the newborn.
This difficult diagnostic case once again demonstrated the high level of professionalism and coordinated work of the specialists of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine and the medical staff of the obstetrics department of the Vyshgorod Central Regional Hospital. Sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful solution of this clinical task.
