On October 26, 2018, a scientific conference devoted to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Professor Igor Porfyriyovych Shlapak was held in the premises of the Institute of the Heart of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In his report associate professor M.V. Bondar highlighted the main stages of the biography of the famous scientist, from his childhood to the last years of life of the famous scientist: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the School of Higher Education, Vice President of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care and the Chairman of the Specialized Council D 26.613.02 for the approval of doctoral and candidate's papers at the NMAPE named after PL Shupyk, member of the problem commission on anesthesiology and intensive care of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, chief non-clinical specialist in clinical toxicology of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (1994-2005). In 1995, I.P. Shlapak defended his doctoral dissertation on the problems of regional anesthesia, and in 1996 he headed the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Academy, replacing Professor Anatoly Ivanovych Trishchynskiy, the prominent scientist and his Teacher. In 1998, under the direction of IP Shlapak, this department became the basis of anesthesiology and clinical toxicology among the departments of the anesthetic profile of higher education institutions of Ukraine. Since then, for many years, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of NMAPE named after PL Shupyk holds leading positions in the organization of educational process, methodological, scientific and medical work. And great merit was on its leader - Professor IP Shlapak. The scientific interests of the scientist were extremely broad and concerned the problems of intensive therapy of craniocerebral trauma and combined trauma, acute stroke and poisoning, sepsis, shock, diabetes mellitus, acute pancreatitis, treatment of pain syndromes, the use of regional anesthesia techniques, etc.

In a warm, relaxed atmosphere, colleagues and staff of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care mentioned a famous scientist and discussed his creative heritage. The conference was attended by doctors-anesthesiologists, students of the pre-certification cycle and internship cycles, intern doctors (totaling over 150 people).
