Head of Department of Pediatric infectious Diseases and Immunology prof. Alla Volokha participated as a member of faculty in Tr@inforPedHIV course, which took place from Thusday 4th till Thursday 6th December 2018 in Odessa.

Tr@inforPedHIV is organized in the framework of the partnership between Pediatric European Network for Treatment of AIDS (PENTA) and the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases. It is a training programme for healthcare professionals caring for HIV infected children. This innovative course uses a new methodology integrating distance learning with interactive residential courses.

60 delegates attended from Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus. There was a mixture of paediatricians, infectious diseases and TB specialists.

Programme of training included presentations and practical sessions with clinical cases devoted to clinical features of HIV in children, coinfection of HIV and hepatitis, HIV and tuberculosis, new antiretroviral drugs and strategies, long-term complications in children living with HIV.

Important topics of training were: highlights of pediatric HIV-infection in Ukraine,

the Ukrainian experience in support of children and young people living with HIV in acceptance and self-care, progress to date in validation of elimination of mother to children transmission of HIV-infection. The new information about HIV immunology, immunisation of children with HIV and update on HIV vaccines was presented during the learning course.

Overall, feedback was very positive – delegates commented that lecturers gave interesting and informative talks. Working groups and quizzes were praised for being interactive and keeping the group focussed. The delegates also provided useful feedback that was taken into account for planning future training courses.
