An important component of improving the level of medicine in the country is the system of postgraduate education of doctors. The scientifically grounded approach in medical education is recognized as the most important in the training of specialists. Doctors must be able to find, interpret, and apply the most appropriate method in a particular clinical situation to ensure that an optimal decision is made, especially in a critical situation. However, often, novice doctors lack confidence in the decision-making process.

According to international approaches and learning experience in real conditions, tests have been developed at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the NMAPE named after PL Shupyk to assess the basic knowledge level, which should strengthen the practical skills and skills necessary for the practice of an anesthesiologist .

Testing among first-year resident doctors was conducted on December 10, 2018, and contained questions that included test assignments from American medical colleges and included an assessment of different areas of competence in anesthesiology and intensive care.

The best results were demonstrated by Chebysheva O. (74% of the correct answers), Nishimenko I. and Pryschepa A. (70%).

The highest scores were collected by residents on subjects related to infusion therapy (60.6% of the correct answers), preanesthesia care (74.5%), intra-venous anesthesia (64.8%) and methods of lungs mechanical ventilation (70,4%).

The greatest difficulty was found in answering questions about postoperative analgesia, local anesthesia and questions from the American test questions (45.1% of the correct answers).

In general, the results of the test control demonstrated a satisfactory level of knowledge and identified the main areas for strengthening the lecture and practical material.

In addition, this test control indicates the need for further implementation of international educational standards in the teaching and methodological work.
