In December 2018, Yuriy Stepanovskyy, associate professor of the Department of pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric immunology had a training at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA.

Dr. Yuriy Stepanovskyy worked with clinical and research team which studies autoinflammatory diseases at the National Institute of Human Genome Research from December 3 to December 21, 2018. During this time Dr. Stepanovskyy, had an opportunity to attend pediatric clinic, laboratory meetings, journal club presentations as well as other talks at the NIH. Dr. Stepanovskyy has seen many patients with rare autoinflammatory diseases including recently recognized interpheronopathies and has learnt about new therapeutic approaches which are based on the understanding mechanisms of disease in these patients.

He had discussions with Drs. Daniel Kastner, Ivona Aksentijevich and Raphaela Goldbach-Mansky who are leading experts in the world for autoinflammatory diseases. Cooperation between National Human Genome Research Institute and Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education for PFAPA-syndrome study was established. The purpose of this research is to study the etiology of PFAPA-syndrome, especially searching for its causative genes.

Training at the NIH and new scientific contacts open good opportunities for future cooperation, establishing of active clinic for autoinflammatory disorders in Ukraine and introduction of new knowledge to educational programs of NMAPE.
