At the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology, as part of the involvement of the leading international experience in the pedagogical process, the educational part of the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) is implemented.
This programme aims at scaling up services for mental, neurological and substance use disorders for countries especially with low- and middle-income. The programme asserts that with proper care, psychosocial assistance and medication, tens of millions could be treated for depression, schizophrenia, and epilepsy, prevented from suicide and begin to lead normal lives– even where resources are scarce. The peculiarity of mhGAP is to adapt and algorithmize the assessment, management and follow-up of patients with mental disorders for general practitioners, clinical and practical psychologists and other non-specialized healthcare providers.
In the process of implementing of this program, on 6th of February, 2019 a pilot training workshop was conducted at the department within the framework of the training course of psychiatry for intern-neurologists. Assistant Professor, M.D., Ph.D. Stanislav Chumak presented algorithms for assessment, management, treatment and follow-up of patients with depressive disorders at the level of general practitioners developed by WHO specialists.
At present the department is developing Topical Advanced Trainings for general medical practitioners, neurologists, clinical and practical psychologists and psychotherapists in accordance with the mhGAP programme.
