On the 31st of May, 2019 in the Irpin on the initiative of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of the  Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education the scientific and practical multidisciplinary conference "Rational use of energy in surgery" was held. The chosen format of the conference (briefing) included the active participation of the speaker and the audience in discussing the practical application of surgical technologies in the spheres of various surgical specialties.

Speakers from all over Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Chernihiv) reported on current achievements and their own experience in using various types of power generators and tools (mono- and bipolar, ultrasonic energy, bio-electric welding, laser and argon-plasma coagulation, radio frequency ablation) in various surgical procedures directions.

The detailed analysis of the work and results of the use of various energy platforms has made it possible for practicing surgeons to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each method, to choose an efficient and rational way of using each of the energies in a particular diagnostic situation.

The scientific program of sectional sessions was full and structured in directions and specialties - general surgery, oncosurgery, phlebology, gynecology.

Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of NMAPE under the guidance of S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor) presented a series of following programmatic reports: "Possibilities and advantages of using bipolar electrosurgery and electric welding" by Lysenko V. (MD, PhD, Associate professor), "Automatic endovenous electric welding in the treatment of varicose disease of the lower extremities" by Gorbovets V. (MD, PhD), "Endovascular electrical welding as an alternative method of treatment of acute ascending thrombophlebitis"  by Gerashchenko R. (MD, PhD student), "Ultrasonic energy dissector in the surgeon's hands: when is it really necessary? Experience in Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery" by Zavertylenko D. (MD, PhD student)," Real possibilities and myths about laser use in surgery. What is radiofrequency ablation and where it is used in surgical practice?"  by Glagoleva A. (MD, PhD student).

The undeniable priority of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery is the introduction of modern non-invasive and less traumatic techniques and surgical energies into practice, their rational use, development and use of bioelectric welding methods.

A lively discussion, exchange of practical experience, new knowledge, opening new opportunities and prospects for further development are the result of the scientific conference and its participants.
