Among the main areas of development of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (the Chief of Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery - S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor)), a leading place is occupied with the preparation of promising young scientific and pedagogical personnel among the PhD students, in the vector of the use of minimally invasive surgical technologies (laparoscopy, endoscopy), modern surgical strategies for the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes and the implementation of the Fast Track Surgery protocol.

That is why, in August 2019, a week-long working trip took place in order to participate in traineeship and exchange the experience of the PhD student of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery D. Zavertylenko (surgeon, MD) to Turkey (Istanbul) at the Medistate Kavacik Hastanesi Clinic. D. Zavertylenko completed a week course in bariatric surgery under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Emin Ersoy (Head of Surgical and Bariatric fields of the clinic). The team of the clinic multidisciplinary demonstrated modern effective strategies and tactics of managing obese patients and presented their own results and principles of work. During this one week traineeship, D. Zavertylenko participated in 6 bariatric laparoscopic surgeries (Sleeve gastrectomies), which were performed by three different techniques, and in 3 endoscopic surgeries (intra-gastric Botox injections). Such interest in the problems of bariatric surgery by the staff of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of the Shupyk NMAPE is not accidental: first, among the scientific and practical problems of the department there is the problem of treatment of diabetes and its complications and obesity, metabolic syndrome, which, according to recent European and world guidelines, should be considered in the orbit of bariatric surgery as the most effective method of treatment,  secondly, today the main strategy of bariatric surgery implementation is the minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopy, endoscopy), which is the main strategic direction for the further development of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, and thirdly, the topic of the dissertation of D. Zavertylenko directly related to surgical treatment of morbid obesity and metabolic syndrome and performed under the scientific supervision of the Head of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor).

This traineeship has created the conditions for establishing cooperation between our institutions, in connection with which a number of working trips have already been planned and the possibility of joint research and joint performances at European and world bariatric and diabetic scientific forums is considered.
