International Primary Immunodeficiency Congress held in Madrid (Spain) on November 6-8, 2019 (IPIC 2019). The Congress was organized by International Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiency (IPOPI). The event aimed at raising the knowledge about the latest tools for diagnosis and treatment of primary immunodeficiencies, as well as discussing issues that are significant for the patient community, such as ensuring equal access to care for patients in different countries, organization of increasing the awareness about primary immunodeficiencies among medical and non-medical community to improve the early diagnosis.
Very important that a variety of ethical issues related to early diagnosis, treatment, and family planning were discussed. Global overview of 20 years of gene therapy was presented with looking into past, future and the potential for the developing world.
Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Immunology of Shupyk National Medical Academy for Postgraduate education was represented by Professor Alla Volokha, Associate Professor Anastasia Bondarenko, Assistant Professor Anna Hilfanova.
During the conference, formal and informal meetings with immunology experts from around the world were held to share experiences in the diagnosis of congenital immunity disorders. The Congress consisted of plenary sessions, symposia and poster presentations. IPIC 2019 has Guided Poster Walks, guided by prominent world immunologists. Three poster presentations from the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Immunology were presented at the conference: “Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue 1 (MALT1) deficiency: severe skin lesions as an early diagnostic clue”, “Leucocyte adhesion deficiency: the first cases in Eastern Europe”, “Hyper IGE Syndrome associated with novel DOCK8 heterozygous mutation”.
