Being an unconscious knowledge of grammar that allows a speaker to use and understand a language, linguistic competence is crucial to create a common qualification package for master's degree holders.
In order to overhaul a teaching and learning paradigm at the Academy we set up a master's degree program "Professional English in Use" for dentists. The future course suggests that the holders master a special vocabulary, the narrative and stylistic structures of medical language, avoid the most common mistakes in their speech. 90 hours / 3 ECTS credits are allocated to the course units.
The purpose of the course "Professional English in Use" is to develop professional linguistic competency in the trainees in order to relief their passing the English language test as part of the state qualification examination.
Linguistic competences are related to the use of language through the expression and interpretation of concepts, thoughts, feelings, facts, and opinions in order to perform oral and written discussions.
In accordance with the requirements of the Higher Education Standard of Ukraine, the course ensures that students acquire a number of competencies, namely: integral, including problem-solving ability (typical, ordinary, and highly specialized tasks in English at work or during study), which involves applying oral and written communication standards, characterized by the complexity and uncertainty of the conditions, conducting research and implementing innovations; general, including abstract reasoning ability, analytical and synthetic skills, professional knowledge, ability to manage information, leadership, compliance culture etc.; special, including ability to solve typical elementary, simple and highly specialized professional tasks in medicine and dentistry in English at work or during training, which involves applying oral and written communication standards in medicine and dentistry; ability to use the methods of planning, designing, modeling, controlling in English, when speaking to colleagues and working with English-language resources etc.
The classes will be conducted by the best teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages.
