On January 27, 2021, in the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education a meeting of the one-time specialized scientific council DF 26.613.007 was held. During this meeting a defense of the dissertation for obtaining a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of study 22 Health care in speciality 222 Medicine (specialization "Ophthalmology") took place.
Specialized scientific council DF 26.613.007 of the Shupyk NMAPE was created by the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 04.12.2020 № 1502 for consideration of the dissertation of a correspondent postgraduate student of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk NMAPE, an ophthalmologist LLC "British Ophthalmological Center" of Artem Burdei with the title "Diagnostic significance of glutathione-S-transferase (GSTM1 and GSTT1) deletion polymorphisms in the development and progression of primary open angle glaucoma".
The scientific adviser of the applicant was Head of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk NMAPE, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergiy Rykov.

The meeting was held by the Chairman of the one-time specialized scientific council DF 26.613.007 Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Iryna Shargorodska, Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk NMAPE of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with full observance of the requirements of item 21 of the Procedure of conducting an experiment for awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of study 22 Health care in specialty 222 Medicine (specialization "Ophthalmology"), approved by the resolution of the the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 06.03.2019 №167.

The meeting was held in the spirit of an open scientific discussion, questions were asked from all the participants of the meeting, including the Chairman of the council, opponents, reviewers and invited staff of the department, some questions were also sent to the Academy at the council address by e-mail. The applicant provided comprehensive answers to all the questions that satisfied all members of the specialized council. Each of the opponents and reviewers highly appreciated the dissertation and its author.
During the meeting, the council established the level of acquisition of theoretical knowledge, abilities, skills and other competencies by the applicant, that enabled him to complete a research work containing new provisions and new scientifically sound results in the field of ophthalmology, which solve an important scientific and applicable task of improving the efficiency of diagnosis and prediction of development and progression of primary open-angle glaucoma by determining the diagnostic significance of glutathione-S-transferase gene (GSTM1 and GSTT1) deletion polymorphisms in patients from the Ukrainian population. After the discussion, the final word was given to the applicant, who expressed in it his conclusions regarding the results of the discussion of his dissertation.
According to the results of a secret ballot a decision was made unanimously to award Artem Burdei with a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of study 22 Health care in speciality 222 Medicine (specialization "Ophthalmology").
