Traditionally, at the beginning of the year, employees of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care PL Shupyk NMAPE analyze the activities of their team and report on the work done in the past, in 2020. Problems and challenges associated with COVID-19 have complicated the usual rhythm of professional activity of teachers. To solve them, distance learning forms were introduced.

Today we can say that the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care has gained significant experience in conducting large-scale scientific and scientific-practical activities, the educational process using distance forms of communication and learning. Thus, at the beginning of last year, the educational platform of the department was introduced in the social networks "Medical Educational Portal", which is now signed by more than 11,000 doctors. The Department has introduced a new form of distance learning in the format of a series of audio discussions (so-called podcasts) on current issues of anesthesiology and intensive care, which are gaining popularity on the web pages of the department (total number of listens to the first discussion was 15 thousand). On October 15-17, 2020, two large-scale online conferences BUS 12 and YAC 5 were merged and held. They used 30 hours of airtime, involving 2,537 delegates.

Using the ZOOM program, lectures and workshops were held regularly, including 89 lectures for interns and 38 lectures for students of thematic improvement cycles during quarantine. Credits for interns are also available online.

Within the on-line platform of the most prestigious congress of anesthesiologists and intensive care physicians ESA-2020, the largest forum of the European Society of Anesthesiology (ESA), 3 innovative works of the department were presented.

On September 25-26, 2020, the Congress of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine was held online, in which the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care presented 5 reports.

The staff of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care together with the British Speaker, Mr. Johnn Maurice Alwood (West Middlesex Hospital University, Great Britain) organized and conducted a 4-hour master class for doctors KCCH № 10, dedicated to the peculiarities of airway patency, video-assisted intubation with practice on manikins videolaryngoscopy in simulation situations when working with the patient COVID-19. Employees of the Department within the framework of cooperation and support of continuous professional training of anesthesiologists organized and conducted 5 master classes and simulation lectures for anesthesiologists of the Department of Anesthesiology and IC of the Central Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv.

There were also 2 cycles of thematic improvement in the form of distance learning: "Diagnosis and intensive care of emergencies", "Current issues of diagnosis and intensive care of acute poisoning." The plan for students to fill the TI courses for the first half of the year is 100% fulfilled.

During the quarantine period, 19 articles of educational and scientific nature were prepared (among them in journals indexed in the scientometric database Scopus - 3 articles), 2 declaratory patents for inventions were obtained.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care not only conducts planned training cycles, but also liaises with doctors by organizing field lectures and seminars. Thus, in February 2020, the Head of the Department, Professor Oleg Loskutov, gave three field lectures, which he delivered at meetings of regional societies of doctors in Kyiv (Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital), the Main Military Clinical Hospital, a meeting of the regional society of anesthesiologists (Odessa).

Employees take an active part in the work of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Kyiv. Postgraduate student of the department Mariana Bolyuk, made a report on the features of pain in patients with diabetes and myocardial infarction (supervisor – Dr. O. Galushko), aroused the interest of conference participants and was awarded a diploma II degree.

Such achievements of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care were evaluated at the Faculty of Surgery, where the department took 1st place. In the internal rating of NMAPE departments based on the results of achievements in 2020, the department took 2nd place.
