At the Department of Neurology No. 2, headed by Full Professor Olena Tkachenko, the investigations concerning the nervous system state under somatic pathology, in particular the kidneys, are under way. The investigations concerning the nervous system stat in renal pathology in patients with neuromuscular diseases, in particular, have been carried out by PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor Oksana Kononets and extramural post-graduate student Tymur Karaiev.

According to the results of the study fragment, the article, titled «Renal, Hepatic and Immune Function Indices in Patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy» was published in the Georgian Medical News journal, included in Scopus database for science.

There were considered the following issues. The patients' renal dysfunction was characterized by the following: 21% of our patients were registered to have a reduced creatinine blood level, and 16% of patients were registered to have a reduced glomerular filtration rate. The most deviations were registered in the indices of liver enzymatic activity in the patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy; 94% of patients were revealed to have the increased alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels, suggesting the presence of direct correlation (the strong and moderate ones, accordingly) between the indices and the Creatine phosphokinase level. The patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy were found to have deviations in the indices of immune status, in particular, the T-helpers level was below normal in almost half of the examined patients. There was also observed a correlation between the B-lymphocytes count and the Creatine phosphokinase level.

Studying the nervous system state under somatic pathology, in particular the kidneys, is under way.
