June 10–12, 2021, the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine together with the «Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists and Optometrists of Ukraine» are passed a scientific-practical conference of pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists of Ukraine with international participation «You need to see your childhood`2021», which was held offline and online.

At the beginning of the conference, 275 offline and 519 online, ophthalmologists, pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists of Ukraine registered and joined. Over 4589 doctors, including ophthalmologists from Kazakhstan, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus, joined the conference over three days.

The purpose of the conference is to spread the latest knowledge and skills in ophthalmology and optometry.

The conference program included seven sectional sessions of thematic lectures and 5 master classes with WETLAB elements.

Thanks to the introduction of advanced technologies, during the conference students from all regions of Ukraine had the opportunity to join lectures and workshops of leading domestic and foreign experts from Poland (Krzysztof Dowgierd), Kazakhstan (Asel Sharipova), Latvia (Olena Slabtsova). All lectures and master classes were broadcast live on the Internet on YouTube.

Special attention was paid to the training of young Ukrainian ophthalmologists, interns and optometrists. They had the opportunity to connect to master the skills of contact lens selection, work on modern equipment for the detection of red eye syndrome and the selection of means of correction in specially dedicated thematic workshops, during which offline and online discussions were held, clinical examples were discussed and discussed and complex cases, answers to numerous questions.

The first in Ukraine master classes “Optometric view on the problem of "Dry Eye" in children”, “Algorithms for selection of multifocal contact lenses. Analysis of difficulties in working with patients” and “Methods for diagnosing near-distance vision function in the selection  of soft contact lens”  with the participation of thematic patients and the simultaneous connection of 250 doctors took place on the first and second day of the event.

Within the framework of the scientific-practical conference «You need to see your childhood`2021» a number of act lectures were given: an act video lecture «Congenital glaucoma – European guidelines for ophthalmology», Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Chairman of the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists and Optometrists of Ukraine, professor Sergiy Rykov); «Topical issues of neuroprotective therapy in childhood» (professor Iryna Shargorodska); «Modern opportunities in the rehabilitation of patients with anophthalmos» (professor Oksana Petrenko).

Scientific-practical conference with international participation «You need to see your childhood`2021» was another proof of the urgency of refractive errors, cataracts and glaucoma and, most importantly, the awareness of Ukrainian doctors of the role of pediatric ophthalmologist and optometrist in the treatment and prevention of blindness from ophthalmic children diseases.

As part of the scientific-practical conference, an meeting of the support department of ophthalmology and representatives of related departments on improving the training programs of ophthalmologists, pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists was held. A meeting of the EPC NAMS and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine «Ophthalmology and tissue therapy» was held.

The participants of the meeting discussed and adopted a draft resolution of the conference, discussed the development of unified clinical protocols and guidelines – «Strabismus», «Dry eye disease», «Optometry»; It is planned to hold a scientific-practical conference with international participation «You need to see your childhood`22» in the next 2022.

Most of the participants of the scientific-practical conference noted the high professional and organizational level of its holding.
