On October 28, 2021, a local conference of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Kyiv was held, which was devoted to topical issues of intravenous lidocaine use in the practice of anesthesiology and intensive care. The conference was organized by the Association of Anesthesiologists of Kyiv and the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine.
Following the quarantine requirements, the conference was held in a virtual format on the GoToMeeting platform. Anesthesiologists from Kyiv, interns and students of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care participated in the event.
The presented reports highlighted the features of systemic use of lidocaine. K. Belka, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery, Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Postgraduate Education, Bogomolets National Medical University, reported about the use of lidocaine in perioperative analgesia. She outlined the regimens and doses of lidocaine administration as an adjuvant in the overall perioperative pain treatment program. Major of the medical service of the military hospital A. Kuznetsov, made a speach on the use of lidocaine for pain relief in gunshot wounds of the extremities, he shared his experience of using lidocaine in the wounded patients. Of particular interest was the report of the Head of the intensive care unit and PhD student of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care R. Zatsarinny. Roman Andriyovych showed the results of his own research and shared his experience in the use of intravenous lidocaine in liver resection surgery at the National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology named after O. O. Shalimov.
Much attention was paid to the possibility of lidocaine using in intensive care. In particular, Associate Professor M. Pylypenko, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Institute of Neurosurgery named after Academician A. P. Romodanov, outlined the prerequisites for the inclusion of intravenous lidocaine in the treatment of patients with epilepsy. And Associate Professor of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department L. Tantsyura provided evidence on the use of lidocaine in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults and children. Finally, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care I. Kyselova in her report noted the measures for the safe use of lidocaine in anesthesiology and intensive care.
Each of the reports was accompanied by a lively discussion, which testified to the great interest of anesthesiologists in the presented topics. At the end of the conference, the participants noted the importance of the information they received and expressed a desire to continue to hold local conferences of the Association in a virtual format.
