The Department of Pharmacy Organization was founded in 1939 in Kyiv Pharmaceutical Refresher Institute, at present - NMAPE of the Ministry of Health of the USSR. That very year the department was reorganized into the course, which was included into the Department of Pharmaceutics and Galenicals.

In December, 1977 by the decree of the Ministry of Health of the USSR the Department of Pharmacy Organization and Economics was founded (later renamed the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy).

The significant contribution to the development of the Department of Pharmacy Organization (1966-1986) was made by PhD (Pharmacy), Associate Professor, head of the course, and then, head of the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy (1977 – 1986) I. M. Gubsky.

In 1986 - 1991 the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy was headed by PhD (Pharmacy), Associate Professor L. T. Zagorovska.

Since 1991 till now the department has been headed by Dr. Sc. (Pharmacy), Full Professor M. S. Ponomarenko. Under his guidance the staff members implement innovatory technologies of the management and work organization of the subjects of pharmaceutical activity under present-day conditions (marketing, rational pharmaceutical management, formulary systems, pharmacy economics, etc.).
