The Department of Oncology held a meeting attended by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Cooperation, Oleh Shevchenko. The participants discussed research proposals and presentations of potential areas for international scientific projects, focusing on opportunities for cooperation, potential funding avenues, and the implementation of these projects.
Research proposals and ideas were presented by faculty and postgraduate students from the Department of Oncology at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, led by the department head, Professor Prokop Gordiichuk. Anastasia Samusieva MD, PhD, assistant professor, presented her research proposals on early diagnosis of recurrences and identifying potential predictors of treatment resistance in patients with breast cancer and skin melanoma. The relevance and importance of these research directions, as well as possibilities for their implementation through international cooperation, were highlighted.
Mykola Gordiichuk MD, PhD presented two topics. The first focused on investigating potential predictors of anastomotic failure after colorectal cancer surgery, aimed at improving patients' quality of life and survival rates. The second research area concerned the study of the effects of military actions on cancer incidence, disease progression, and outcomes among patients in different regions of Ukraine. This topic is especially significant as it could contribute to the healthcare system by developing organizational, preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic guidelines, as well as rehabilitation mechanisms for cancer patients based on the study's findings.
Postgraduate students Oleksii Kalachov and Anna Konyshova presented a research proposal on palliative care and management for incurable patients at various stages of palliative care, which plays a crucial role in the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer. Oleksii and Anna have practical experience in this field and ideas for further scientific developments.
After all research proposals were presented, a discussion took place. Oleh Oleksandrovych gave positive feedback on each idea, outlining possible paths for implementing these studies and areas for further refinement.
