On April 21, 2021, the British-Ukrainian symposium (BUS 13) "Topical Issues and Innovative Technologies in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care" starts its work. Quarantine measures caused by the spread of COVID-19 are a significant challenge for all participants of the latest annual forums.
Therefore, scientific and educational activities can be argued to be in extreme conditions (which significantly brings it closer to the specialty "Anesthesiology" itself), and that is why it was decided to hold the current forum online.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine has sufficient experience in conducting such scientific and educational events online. So, last year, BUS 12 and MAC V (Youth anesthesiology conference) were held remotely, where 123 lectures and reports were delivered (including 20 by foreign speakers), as well as 12 master classes were held, 2,537 delegates were registered. In total, more than 30 hours of airtime were spent. Over the past 5 years, 6,412 delegates were registered at the British-Ukrainian symposia, who received 594 lectures, 121 master classes, and 2 satellite symposia, and 37 refresh courses were held.
World-famous speakers attended the symposium, which has received international recognition. So this year, their preliminary consent was provided by Jean-Louis Vincent (professor of intensive medicine at the University of Libre de Brussels, Belgium, author of more than 1000 peer-reviewed articles, 400 chapters in books on intensive care, editor-in-chief of several leading journals on intensive care) and Paolo Pelosi (Professor, Head of the Department of anesthesia and intensive care and director of the Special School of anesthesiology at the University of Genoa, Italy, President of the National Italian College of professors on anesthesiology (CPAR), member of the board of many international unions and scientific committees on anesthesiology, respiratory medicine, and mechanical ventilation).
