In Ukraine, as in many developed countries, the toxic burden on the civilian population has increased in recent years. The incidence of acute poisoning over the past decade is 25—40 cases per 10 000 in the population with an upward trend.

In addition to the increase in the influence of exogenic (external) factors of toxic load on humans, over the past decades there has been a gradual increase in the number of diseases, the course of which is complicated by severe manifestations of endogenic (internal) intoxication syndrome and multiple organ failure, with damage and temporary dysfunction of natural detoxification organs (kidneys, liver, etc.). Therefore, studying key issues and familiarizing doctors of various specialties with clinical toxicology increases medical awareness and makes it possible to respond in time to critical conditions that may develop in patients.

On May 29, 2021, within the framework of the online CME project the forum Pro_TOXIC was held, dedicated to the main problems of toxicology. The project was moderated by Sergiy Nedashkivsky, associate professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, as the chief specialist in Clinical Toxicology. Sergiy Nedashkivsky presented modern approaches to the use of antidotes, highlighted key aspects of the clinic, diagnosis, and treatment of poisoning of biological origin. Inna Kuchynska, associate professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, discussed with the audience the topic of poisons affecting the liver and kidneys, in particular, iatrogenic injuries, drug overdoses, etc.

In addition, the staff of the Department organized a master class with a discussion of the clinical case of carbon monoxide poisoning, during which the situation was modeled, the main aspects of the patient's examination, case history, and algorithm of providing emergency care were discussed.
