On June 8, 2021, at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine (head of the Department - Professor S. Savoliuk) was held a professional seminar on the preliminary examination of the PhD dissertation of R. Gerashchenko.

 R. Gerashchenko is a PhD-student in his 4th year at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery. The dissertation "Endovenous electric welding in the treatment of ascending thrombophlebitis of great saphenous vein" (field of knowledge - 22 "Healthcare", specialty 222 "Medicine", specialization 14.01.03. - "Surgery") was performed under the guidance of Professor V. Khodos.

The chairman of the professional seminar was Professor O. Zhernov (Department of Combustiology and Plastic Surgery), the reviewers were Professor V. Smorzhevsky (Department of Surgery and Transplantology) and Associate Professor N. Prysyazhna (Department of Surgery and Transplantology).

In the report R. Gerashchenko highlighted the main positions of the work, focusing on the relevance of the presented urgent surgical problem, taking into account the dynamics of the global incidence of varicose veins and its complications in the form of acute ascending thrombophlebitis; the evaluation of early and long-term results of endovenous electric welding technology was carried out during urgent minimally invasive interventions; the results of experimental researches on bioimitation models were presented to determine optimal modes of energy endovenous exposure (exposure and power) and analysis of clinical observation of patients.

Urgent and elective minimally invasive phlebology is one of the priority areas of research at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, performed under the guidance of the head of the department Professor S. Savolyuk. The results of the dissertation are framed in the relevant sections of the research work of the department, introduced into the program of cycles of thematic improvement "Endovenous electric welding in surgery of varicose veins and its complications", "Minimally invasive techniques in phlebology" and the work of surgical departments at clinical bases of the department.

The reviewers emphasized the importance of the dissertation research, especially the medical and social aspect of the selected scientific problem, praised the methodology of the experimental section of the work, which allowed him to extrapolate the results into clinical conditions and develop technology for urgent minimally invasive clinical intervention.

The meeting was attended by employees and PhD-students of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, Professor O. Dyadyk (Department of Pathological and Topographic Anatomy), taking into account that all the results of morphological research of the experimental and clinical part presented in the dissertation were performed with her direct participation and consultation.

The participants of the professional seminar decided that the dissertation meets all the requirements and can be recommended for official defense in a specialized scientific council.
