The reformation and development of healthcare are impossible without the development and modernization of medical education, which must meet European standards and be competitive in the global market for providing medical services.
Society needs a professional doctor, a highly qualified specialist because his mistakes are incorrigible. For effective treatment, it is important to know and apply modern methods of diagnostics and intensive care promptly, to work in close contact with doctors of other specialties, and constantly improve your professional level. The latter implies the ability to use scientific medical information in the practical activities of a doctor, assimilation of a system of terms and concepts, understanding the essence and principles of using various training technologies.
The implementation of educational activities at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care is based on the principles used in the European education system, which, among other things, provides using such an approach as OSCE. But the vast majority of first-year interns are either not sufficiently familiar with this system or are not psychologically ready for such an assessment of their level of knowledge, which involves determining the amount of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of interns in short periods. Taking into account the following factors, the department has recently conducted practical classes to assess the knowledge of interns in the OSCE system for individual stations: "CPR" (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), "Intraoperative monitoring", "Preoperative examination of the patient", "Cardiostation", "Theoretical station", "Difficult airways".
The first results of the survey of interns showed, that in the future it will be necessary to improve the level of teaching more carefully and practice practical skills with interns in these areas. At the end of practical classes, the head of the Department, Professor Oleg Loskutov, noted that such a modern, fast, standardized, and objective method of assessing knowledge as OSCE has shown its effectiveness and should continue to be improved in the future.
