The Department of Children’s Dentistry of the Institute of Dentistry of Shupyk NHU of Ukraine has achieved a great success. The Department of Children’s Dentistry, the first one in the Ukrainian postgraduate education, was founded in 1977. In 1977-1997 the department was headed by Olena V. Udovytska, MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor, Chief Children’s Dentist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Under her guidance the staff members made progress in training dentists, in solving the actual issues of scientific and practical children’s dentistry. In 1997-2001, being reorganized the department worked as part of the Department of Preventive Dentistry (the head of the department was Full Professor Anatolii P. Hrokholskyi, the head of the Unit of Children’s Dentistry was Full Professor Olena V. Udovytska). In 2001-2003 the Unit of Children’s Dentistry worked as part of the Department of Dentistry (the head of the department was Full Professor Oleksii V. Pavlenko).

In 2003 the Unit of Children’s Dentistry became the Department of Children’s Dentistry. The head of the department was appointed Nataliia O. Savychuk, MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor, Master of the Public Administration, Chief Children’s Dentist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Kyiv City Health Administration, President of the Association of Dental Health and Hygiene Education. 
The outstanding people worked at the department, such as Associate Professor, MD, Dr. Sc. Liudmyla B. Leporska (1977-2002), Associate Professors, MD, PhDs: Olena F. Kononovych (1977-1979), Lidiia H. Shcherbyna (1977-1979); Liudmyla F. Korchak (1977-1990), Inna O. Holovnia (1987-1990), Tamara M. Spiridonova (1980-2003), Tetiana Ye. Boichenko, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor (1980-2009); Assistant Professors, MD, PhDs: Svitlana P. Kolomiiets (1977-1980), Valerii M. Kharchenko (1977-1996); Dmytro V. Leporskyi (2002-2008), Anna P. Hryshyna (2003-2010); Oksana V. Klitynska (2005-2010); Natalia Ya. Polianyk (2007-2011); Assistant Professor Svitlana V. Nedashkivska (2003-2005).         

The department has trained 8 postgraduate students and 28 residents.
