The department was founded in 1992 at the base of the Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the NAMS of Ukraine. As there are laboratory, functional and clinical units at the Institute its educational, scientific and clinical work is performed to high professional standards.
The department consists of Full Professor, MD, Dr. Sc. R. M. Vitovsky, Associate Professors: MD, PhD O. A. Pishchurin, MD, PhD V. V. Isaenko, MD, PhD Ye. O. Bilynsky and Assistant Professor, MD, PhD O. Z. Paratsiy, K. P. Kuzmina, expert in teaching methodology.
The foundation of the department was taken in order to enabling doctors specialized in different areas to improve knowledge about modern diagnostic techniques and surgery for cardiovascular patients.
