The Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine received its name in January 2013 after the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Health Resort and the Department of Sports Medicine and Sanology had been reorganized.

In September 1, 1944 at Kyiv Institute of Advanced Medical Studies (KIAMS, now NMAPE) there was opened a separate Department of Physical Therapy, headed by Full Professor O. R. Kyrychynsky.

In 1998 the department became the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Health Resort with the course of exercise therapy. Its branch, headed by Full Professor V. I. Koziavkin, was opened at the Institute for Medical Rehabilitation in Truskavets’.
In 2013 having been united with the Department of Sports Medicine and Sanology of NMAPE the department was given a name the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine.

The Department of Sports Medicine and Sanology was founded in September 1, 1992 at Kyiv Institute of Advanced Medical Studies under the guidance of Full Professor Apanasenko G. L. The creation of the department was conditioned by the fact that in1991 due to Full Professor Apanasenko G. L. it was founded a new medical speciality - sanology.
