The Department of Nutrition Hygiene and Hygiene of Children and Adolescents was founded in 1939. Till 1941 it was located in Ukrainian Nutrition Institute. The first head of the department was Associate Professor B. L. Hordin.
In 1944 the renewed department was headed by Associate Professor I.V. Svershkov, and in 1948 it was again headed by Associate Professor B. L. Hordin. In 1953 the department was included in the Department of Communal Hygiene and it was renamed the Department of Hygiene (the head of the department was Associate Professor D. M. Kaliuzhnyi).
In 1956 was headed by Associate Professor M. A. Baran, who had worked before as the Chief Sanitary Inspector of Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Health of UkrSSR.
In 1963 in accordance with the determination of the Collegiate organ of the Ministry of Health of UkrSSR.the separate Department of Nutrition Hygiene was founded (the head - Associate Professor H. S. Yatsula).
In 1973 the Department initiated postgraduate training courses on studying food stuffs for the laboratory assistants. In 1988 the Course of Radiation Hygiene was joined to the department, which in 1991 went to the Department of Radiation Medicine, and the Department of Nutrition Hygiene included the Course of Hygiene of Children and Adolescents in 1991
Since 1992 the department has been headed by Full Professor I. P. Koziarin.
The department retrains sanitary inspectors in nutrition hygiene and hygiene of children and adolescents.
By order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine of February 10, 2021 No.225 "On changing the type, renaming and approving the Charter of Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education" the type was changed and Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education was renamed into Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine and the Charter of the institution in a new edition was approved.
