On October 7, the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine organized the first international symposium: «Ukraine-Georgia: Primary Cardiovascular Prevention in Family Medicine». The event was attended by cardiologists, therapists, family physicians, and functional diagnosticians from both Ukraine and Georgia.

The purpose of this meeting in this format was to provide an opportunity for clinical experience exchange and knowledge enhancement for medical professionals, relying on international recommendations, and to get acquainted with the organization of care in other countries.

The event began with the analysis of a clinical case presented by Dr. Tariel Jakhia, head of the cardiology department, interventional cardiologist, Clinic «Batumi Medical Center» (Georgia). Through this case, the complete management of a patient with an acute coronary syndrome in a hospital in Georgia and after discharge was shown.

Determination of cardiovascular risk. Are statins needed in primary prevention? The answer to this question was sought by prof. David Malidze, professor of the European University, Tbilisi, head of the clinical diagnostics department, cardiologist, «Newmed» clinic (Georgia). The speaker demonstrated several different clinical cases, and discussed the specifics of prescribing lipid-lowering therapy based on the 2021 European recommendations, taking into account patients' cardiovascular risks.

Treatment of a patient with coronary heart disease and arterial hypertension according to the European recommendations of ESH and ACC\AHA 2023 - the topic of the master class of prof. Maryna Dolzhenko, head of the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. The session addressed risk assessment for major adverse cardiovascular events, diagnostic tests, and preventive interventions.

The Ukraine-Georgia International Symposium gathered not only professionals, but also friends. Professor David Malidze studied and worked at the Institute of Cardiology named after M.D. Strazhesco in 1996, and Tariel Jakhia once studied at the clinical residency at the Department of Cardiology. The speakers expressed admiration for the Ukrainian people and offered words of support to our healthcare professionals.

After each report, the speakers answered questions received from the audience.
