On November 8th, the department of cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine organized free elective classes to the secondary stroke prevention and drug interactions, coronary heart disease. The sessions took place online, aiming to expand the knowledge and diagnostic capabilities of healthcare professionals in line with global medical trends.
The event began with a lecture by Iryna Davydova, PhD in medicine, titled “It’s easy to harm, difficult to be helpful,” which addressed issues of drug interactions. Drug interactions may manifest as reduced drug efficacy or as worsening of previously controlled conditions. Seventy-five percent of adverse reactions related to drug interactions are predictable and can be avoided. This topic was covered in detail in the lecture.
One of the major global problems is coronary heart disease (CHD), and it is especially important to know how to properly manage such a patient who is preparing for non-cardiac surgery, the complications of which are expected, and how to minimize the risks. The international recommendations on this issue were discussed in detail by Professor Marina Dolzhenko, MD, head of the department of cardiology of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, together with Tetiana Simahina, PhD in medicine and assistant of the department of cardiology.
How can stroke be prevented? Which risk factors require special attention? These questions were addressed by Anton Volosovets, PhD in medicine, the head of the department of emergency states at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, in his lecture titled “Hypercholesterolemia Correction for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke.”
Each speaker answered questions received from doctors.
