On October 17-18, 2024 in Kharkiv under the auspices of such organizations as the State Institution "P.V. Voloshin Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine", NGO "Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine", V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kharkiv National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, NGO "Ukrainian Association of Psychosomatic Medicine" held a symposium with international participation (on-line) "Multidisciplinary approach as an effective paradigm for the provision of psychiatric and neurological during the war".

The following issues were discussed at the scientific and practical symposium:

  • the state of mental, neurological and drug addiction health of the population of Ukraine in the context of war;
  • mental trauma during the war and its impact on public health;
  • Innovative approaches to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the most common and socially significant diseases during the war: PTSD, anxiety and depressive disorders, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and addictions;
  • the current state of research on the etiology, pathogenesis and principles of treatment,
  • based on evidence of neurological, psychiatric and substance abuse disorders;
  • neurological, psychological, psychiatric and substance abuse care to military personnel and their families during wartime;
  • psychological, psychiatric and narcological assistance to children and adolescents during the war;
  • psychological assistance and psychosocial rehabilitation of the most vulnerable groups of the population (children, elderly people, IDPs, and others);
  • organization of neurological, psychological, psychiatric and drug treatment during the war.

Professor Ivan Zozulya, the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, made a presentation on "Syncopal States in Cardiovascular Diseases". A large number of different topics covered at the symposium allowed to significantly enrich the knowledge of the participants in various areas of medical care for neurological, psychiatric and narcological diseases.

How can stroke be prevented? Which risk factors require special attention? These questions were addressed by Anton Volosovets, PhD in medicine, the head of the department of emergency states  at  Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, in his lecture titled “Hypercholesterolemia Correction for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke.”

Each speaker answered questions received from doctors.
