On October 4-5, 2019, the first scientific and practical international forum “Metabolic syndrome in multidisciplinary aspect: competition or interaction” was held in Kyiv, with the participation of doctors of various specialties who involved in the treatment of metabolic syndrome (endocrinologists, surgeons, gynecologists, dietitians, pediatricians, psychologists) from all over Ukraine and the world (Belgium, Brazil, Italy, Turkey).

The first day began with the plenary session "Multidisciplinary aspects of metabolic syndrome", at which leading world experts emphasized the high relevance and the need to treat obesity and metabolic syndrome, especially in a multidisciplinary version. In the afternoon, the conference participants were able to attend several sectional meetings. The scientific program of the section sessions was saturated and structured according to directions and specialties: "Health of a woman with metabolic syndrome", "New aspects of management patients with metabolic syndrome ", "Metabolic surgery".

At the section meeting "Metabolic Surgery" Ph.D. researcher of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of Shupyk NMAPE Zavertylenko D. (scientific chief - head of department Prof. Savoliuk S.) presented a departmental report on the topic "The place of restrictive bariatric operations in patients with metabolic syndrome in the aspect of postoperative reflux esophagitis" (authors: Savoliuk S, Lysenko V., Krestianov M., Zavertylenko D.). Such interest in the problems of metabolic surgery by the staff of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of Shupyk NMAPE is not accidental: first, among the scientific and practical problems of the department is the problem of treatment of diabetes and its complications and metabolic syndrome, which, according to recent European and world guidelines, should be considered in the orbit of metabolic surgery as the most effective method of treatment, secondly, today the main strategy of their implementation is the minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopy, endoscopy), which is the main strategic direction for the further development of the department, and thirdly, the topic of the Zavertylenko's dissertation directly related to the surgical treatment of morbid obesity and metabolic syndrome and performed under the scientific supervision of the head of the department - Prof. Savoliuk S.Т

The second day of the forum was divided into section sessions: "Women's health with metabolic syndrome", "Topical issues of dietetics in overweight patients", "Multidisciplinary clinical analysis" and a master class with live surgery "Surgical methods of treatment of obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome". At this master-class were performed laparoscopic Sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Active discussion, exchange of practical experience, new knowledge, opening of opportunities and prospects for further joint development, as well as creation of the Ukrainian Association of Metabolic Medicine are the results of the scientific conference and its participants.
