Diabetic neuropathy is the most common complication of disease affecting the all parts of the nervous system. Diabetic polyneuropathy is the most common form affecting the quality of life and predisposing to the syndrome of diabetic foot and increasing the risk of amputations of lower extremities.
However, many aspects of diagnostics and treatment of diabetic polyneuropathy remain controversial. To develop the new consensus recommendations of treating patients with diabetic polyneuropathy the meeting of the group of international experts was convened. During that 2-days meeting the experts developed the document which was published in the prestigious journal “Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice” as the article “Screening, diagnostics and management of diabetic sensory motor polyneuropathy in clinical practice: International experts consensus recommendations”.
The group of international experts included professors from USA, Great Britain, Germany and other countries. The Head of Department of Diabetology Institute of Family Medicine of Shupyk National University of Healthcare of Ukraine Professor Boris Mankovsky was invited to this group of international experts. The new recommendations will lead to the improvement of the quality of care of patients with diabetic polyneuropathy.
