Infusion-transfusion therapy is one of the main elements in the treatment of patients with critical conditions. The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine held a one-day professional seminar on "Infusion and transfusion therapy for critical ill children." The seminar took place on April 28, 2022 in a remote format on the GoToMeeting platform.
At the beginning of the seminar, novel views on the clinical physiology of water metabolism, which influences the choice of infusion drugs in different clinical situations, were outlined. Much attention has been paid to the pathogenesis of capillary leakage syndrome, which accompanies most critically severe patients. Emphasis was placed on the importance of taking into account the properties of the solutions in their use in the critical care, in particular, a modern description of the various fluids, blood components and products.
In the second part of the seminar, topical issues of treatment of massive bleeding were considered, approaches to the treatment of bleeding in paediatric patients were discussed in detail. Positions on the implementation of the principle of "damage control resuscitation" in children aroused great interest.
The participants of the seminar also had the opportunity to get acquainted with modern recommendations for monitoring of the effectiveness of infusion therapy both in extreme circumstances and in the intensive care unit in the hospital, which is an integral part of the therapeutic process. Discussions at the end of the seminar testified to the interest of the audience and the relevance of the topic in light of the current situation in the country.
