On September 9-10, 2022, as part of the implementation of the global program to fight blindness "Sight 2024: The Right to Sight", the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Glaucoma Society (EGS), the World Glaucoma Association (WGPA) and on the initiative of the Ukrainian Glaucoma Society, the Kyiv Medical University of the Ukrainian Association of Folk Medicine, a scientific and practical conference with international participation "Glaucoma + 2022" was successfully held, in which more than 1,500 ophthalmologists and pediatric ophthalmologists of Ukraine took part.
Employees of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National University of Healthcare of Ukraine took an active part in the event, which is included in the list of official events of the Ministry of Health and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Today, glaucoma is an extremely urgent medical and social problem both in the world and in Ukraine.
Professor Sergiy Rykov, Professor Iryna Shargorodska, Associate Professor Yuliya Panchenko, Candidate of Medical Sciences Oleh Parkhomenko presented lectures and trainings covering current trends in ophthalmology regarding the possibilities of diagnosing and treating glaucoma at Glaucoma + 2022.
As part of the scientific and practical conference, the head of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, chairman of the board of the PO "Association of Children's Ophthalmologists and Optometrists of Ukraine", Professor Sergiy Rykov gave a lecture "Management of persistently high intraocular pressure", emphasized new European trends in the management of patients with glaucoma, reported on state regulations legal documents approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the treatment of glaucoma, cataracts and refractive anomalies in the adult and pediatric population of Ukraine. Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine Iryna Shargorodska delivered a lecture "The Burden of Glaucoma Monitoring", focused in detail on the issues of the need for compliance between the doctor and the patient, the clearly defined periodicity of the complex dynamic examination of a patient with glaucoma, introduced the world criteria of differential diagnosis, the peculiarities of epidemiology, mechanisms of development, clinical picture, signs revealed by special diagnostic techniques and additional methods of examination of this category of patients.
The interesting format of the scientific conference, organized with the active support of the President of the Ukrainian Glaucoma Society, Academician, Professor Zoya Veselovska and her team of like-minded people allowed to exchange experience and communicate with leading foreign ophthalmologists from different countries. Despite the difficult time of the war in Ukraine, our ophthalmologists hold their front with dignity and continue to raise their professional level, adopting the experience of domestic and international ophthalmology experts.
At the end of the scientific and practical conference, interactive voting was held, a lively discussion was held, numerous questions were discussed and answered.
