The main line of investigation of the department is making a polymer long bone model and studying its changes caused by gunshot wounds. 

The principal investigator is the headof the Department of Forensic Medicine, MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor Mishalov Volodymyr D.

The obtained results are implemented into the practice of the bureaus of forensic medical examination, the Research Centre of Criminal Expertise of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and at the department of forensic medicine of the higher medical institutions.

The following organisations work under the Department of Forensic Medicine:

  • the MD, PhD Specialized Scientific Board (К 26.613.03) in Forensic Medicine - 14.01.25 and Traumatology and Orthopaedics - 14.01.21;
  • the Problem Commission (Problemna Komisiia) of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine in Forensic Medicine;
  • the editorial board of the specialized journal “Sudovo-Medychna Ekspertyza” (Forensic Medical Examination).

There were defended 8 PhD theses by the results of the made pieces of the research work.
