The cycle of specialization in the specialty "Ophthalmology" was created for the acquisition of a doctor of the specialty ophthalmologist, which is provided by the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The purpose of the specialization cycle is the retraining of doctors-specialists of the medical profile and doctors of children's ophthalmology in accordance with the requirements of the educational-qualification characteristics of the specialist doctor on the specialty "Ophthalmology" and the level of professional training of a specialist.

Term of training: for medical specialists who have completed internship in one of the specialties "Medical Case" - five months. Term of training: for medical specialists who have completed specialization in children's ophthalmology - two months.

During the study cycle students have the opportunity to master the amount of theoretical knowledge, abilities and practical skills required by the specialist ophthalmologist for independent work on the provision of qualified assistance to patients with pathology of the organ of vision.

In the learning process, the following types of exercises are used: lectures, various types of seminars, practical classes, conferences, computer training, video films of microsurgical operations. In accordance with the curriculum, the students of the cycle increase the theoretical training and acquire practical skills, attend advisory reception of patients in the clinic department, are engaged under the guidance of curators for the treatment of inpatient patients. From the most relevant topics, doctors prepare abstracts, which are discussed at seminars, clinical and hospital conferences.

To identify the level of knowledge and skills of listeners, after each section of the program, intermediate control is carried out using a computer test program and situational tasks developed by the department.

For the final exam is introduce a computer certification program, approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Doctors who have completed their studies at the specialization cycle have fully completed the training program and successfully passed the exam, receive a certificate of a specialist doctor in specialization «Ophthalmology».
