Over the past five years, the Department of Ophthalmology has introduced a new transdisciplinary cycle of thematic improvement with elements of the Wet Lab - "Glaucoma". The cycle is intended for the training of the heads and residents of the ophthalmologic departments, ophthalmologists of the clinics and medical-sanitary units, and children's ophthalmologists who have experience of practical work in their specialty for at least 3 years.

The goal of the cycle is to improve theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnostics, therapeutic, laser and surgical treatment of glaucoma patients, increase microsurgical skills of microsurgeons, studying world diagnostic algorithms and the latest rational methods of treatment for patients with glaucoma.

The listeners of the cycle have an opportunity not only to get acquainted with the latest achievements of the modern world in ophthalmology, new views on the pathogenesis of the glaucoma process, but also to master the latest methods of subclinical diagnosis and the principles of treatment of various forms of glaucoma.

The clinical base of the Department of ophthalmology was used for the training base during the training sessions at the TU "Glaukoma" cycle – Kyiv City Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital "Center of Eye Microsurgery", advisory clinic of the Kyiv City Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital "Eye Microsurgery Center" and microsurgical rooms of "Alcon", thus ensuring the opportunity for the students to independently master the cycle of leading clinical and instrumental diagnostic methods for glaucoma.

Practical classes provide conditions for students to learn early diagnostics and differential diagnostics of complicated forms of glaucoma and types of glaucoma that are rarely encountered. The principles of choosing conservative antihypertensive therapy, a group of pathogenetically directed antiglaucoma agents, possible side effects of drugs and the ways of their prevention will be studied. The leading place in the program of the cycle is devoted to the training of listeners in the approaches to pathogenetically directed laser treatment of glaucoma. Considerable attention is paid to the study of modern indications for surgical intervention in glaucoma and the peculiarities of choosing the method of microsurgical surgery with open-angle and closed-angle glaucoma, ways of preventing possible complications.

At the end of the cycle an exam is conducted with a differential assessment.

Students who have successfully passed the exam will receive a certificate of appropriate type.
