On July 8, a free elective was organized for Ukrainian doctors by the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. This meeting was particularly relevant for cardiologists, family physicians, general practitioners, and endocrinologists.
The aim of the event is modern training of doctors on the latest innovations in medicine, popularization of evidence-based medicine and dissemination of knowledge regarding new recommendations.
The meeting began with a report by prof. Oleksiy Kaminskyi, head of the Department of Radiation Endocrinology of the National Center for Radiation Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine: "Nodular goiter. Modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment". Proper thyroid gland function is supported by elements such as iodine, selenium, magnesium, iron, and coenzyme Q10. Deficiency of these elements leads to dysfunction, especially iodine. Therefore, it is very important to remember the pathologies associated with iodine deficiency, the daily need for this trace element depending on age, as well as modern approaches to the treatment of patients with a deficiency that led to the manifestations of the pathology.
Prof. of the Department of Endocrinology of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University Iryna Kostytska continued the endocrinology block with a lecture on the topic: "Patients with type II Diabetes and the risk of kidney complications. what can recent progress tell us." The focus was on the latest scientific achievements in the treatment of diabetes, particularly with the use of new drugs from the group of SGLT2 inhibitor, which have shown their advantages in randomized trials, especially in patients with concurrent pathologies.
One of the most popular prescriptions for patients with high or very high cardiovascular risk is acetylsalicylic acid. Vasil Skybchik, prof. at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, discussed all aspects of the correct prescription of this drug and the appropriateness of such therapy.
New European recommendations for the treatment of arterial hypertension were released this year. They didn't bring significant surprises, they included several changes. Maryna Dolzhenko, prof., head of the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, told about all the innovations.
