The autumn months of 2024 are marked by oncological events: September is marked by issues of oncogynecological pathology, and October is held under the auspices of breast cancer awareness. The Department of Oncology takes an active part in these events.

The first of these measures was World Gynecological Oncology Day, celebrated annually on September 20th since 2019, is dedicated to raising awareness about gynecologic cancers. This day not only emphasizes the importance of early detection and prevention of malignant neoplasms in the female reproductive system but also serves as a platform to honor the strength of women combating these diseases.

Gynecological cancers are some of the most challenging health issues for women globally. Despite advances in medicine, these cancers often go unnoticed until the later stages, making treatment more complex and reducing survival rates. World GO Day aims to change this by promoting awareness of symptoms, encouraging early diagnosis, and improving treatment outcomes for women.

In 2024, the theme of World GO Day is «Fighting Stigma in Oncogynecology». Over 100 events were held in 42 countries across all five continents to promote this important cause.

At the Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, we actively participate in World GO Day each year. This year in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, we organized the scientific and practical conference «Stigma in Oncogynecology», focusing on strategies to reduce the stigma associated with gynecological cancers. The event was enriched by the participation of patients and their families, who created a beautiful gallery of finger paintings to symbolize their journey.

We invite you to join us next year as we continue to raise awareness, combat stigma, and support women around the world in the fight against gynecological cancers.
