On the 9th of November, 2016 intermsoftheWorldSightDayand realization of global initiative for the elimination of avoidableblindness “Vision 2020: The Right to Sight”, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and World Health Organization (WHO), initiated by the Department of Ophthalmology of Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education there was successfully held Screening for Glaucoma.
On the 9th of November, 2016 intermsoftheWorldSightDayand realization of global initiative for the elimination of avoidableblindness “Vision 2020: The Right to Sight”, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and World Health Organization (WHO), initiated by the Department of Ophthalmology of Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education there was successfully held Screening for Glaucoma. 15 staff members of the Department of Ophthalmology under the supervision of the Head of the department, Full Professor Serhiy Rykov participated in the event.
As part of Screening for Glaucomathere was performed a complex of diagnostic vision tests in accordance with the international standards of diagnosis of glaucoma and prevention of blindness for more than 500 employees of the Academy. Ophthalmological problems and diseases were diagnosed in one in three. It is necessary to note that the increased level of ocular tension was found in 20 percent of the examined people.
”… This is a very good and important initiative. - said the Rector of Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Academician of the NAMS of Ukraine Yuriy Voronenko. - Our specialists have heavy workload; they always carry out consultations, lectures. It is really difficult to find time to take care of health in this busy schedule, but it is necessary. Realizing the problem, the members of the Department of Ophthalmology successfully held screening."
All the examined staff members got specific recommendations and some patients will continue examination and undergo treatment at the clinical site of the Department of Ophthalmology, Kyiv City Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital “Centre of Eye Microsurgery”.
As a result of the event the Rector of the Academy Full Professor Yuriy Voronenko expressed gratitude to the staff members of the Department of Ophthalmology and wished good health and success in professional activities.
