From 14 to 15 September 2018, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the NMAPE named after PL Shupyk took part in the annual congress of the World Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons.

The World Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons was founded in 1990, and the first meeting was held in Chiang Mai (Thailand) in 1991. The founding chancellor was Juro Wada from Japan. The honorary members and founders of the society included Christian Cabrol (France), Denton Cooley (USA), Charles Hahn (Switzerland) and Norman Shumwu (USA).

The basic concept of the Society is the need to have a truly international forum for the exchange of ideas and progress in the field of clinical cardiology and cardiac surgery. Following this concept, annual congresses are held in different parts of the globe.

This year the 28th annual congress was held in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and was devoted to the discussion of concepts and innovations in the field of the development of cardiothoracic science. The forum was attended by delegates from 41 countries.

At this congress, a report was presented, which reflected the latest joint developments of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (Head of Department. Prof. Loskutov OA) and Department of cardiac surgery, radiological endovascular and extracorporeal technologies (Head of Department Professor Todurov BM) in the field of myocardial protection from hypoxia when performing cardiac surgery.

This scientific study is part of the state-funded research work, which is conducted by the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in close cooperation with colleagues of the State Institution "Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine" (director - prof. Todurov BM).

The report was presented, and the research topic aroused a keen interest of those present, as evidenced by the big number of delegates who took part in the discussion.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care expresses gratitude to the co-authors and colleagues who participated in the preparation of this presentation: prof. BM Todurov; PhD, Assoc. Prof. Druzhyna OM; ass. Sudakevich SM, PhD Demenchuk VB; PhD Mokryk IYu.

The presentation of this report at a forum of such level is undoubtedly a recognition of domestic developments and the high scientific level of NMAPE named after PL Shupyk.
