High indexes of scientific work and innovative activity of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery (the Chief of Department - S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor)) of the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, which provides stable high performance of the department in the internal academic rating, are achieved not only by the collective work of the employees.

In this context, it should be noticed the activity and motivation of 3 PhD students of the department who work on the implementation of dissertation research within the planned initiatory research scientific work of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery NMAPE  called "Innovative technologies in surgical treatment of diseases of the abdominal cavity, abdominal wall and vessels" during the term of 2017-2021.

Full-time PhD student of the 2nd year of study Gerashchenko R. performs a dissertation on the topic "Endovascular electric welding in the treatment of ascending thrombophlebitis of a large subcutaneous vein" under the direction of Khodos V. (MD, Dr.Sc., associate professor). The work is experimental and clinical, devoted to the actual and innovative section of urgent, minimally invasive phlebology, and especially in the application of the technology of electric welding of biological tissues under the conditions of acute ascending thrombophlebitis.

Full-time PhD student of the 1st year of education Glagoleva A. working on a candidate's dissertation on the topic "Application of the automatic mode of bioelectric welding in the treatment of varicose disease of the lower extremities" under the direction of S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor). In the framework of the experimental and clinical study, it is planned to improve the technology of endovascular electric welding under the conditions of planned phlebology by working out the automatic welding method for minimizing an operational trauma, the differentiated approach to temperature regimes and improving the safety of the implementation of endovenous interventions.

Full-time PhD student of the 1st year of education Zavertylenko D.  performs a candidate's dissertation on the topic "Laparoscopic gastroplication in surgical treatment of metabolic syndrome" under the direction of the head of the department, S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor). The work is innovative in the context of the implementation of the Fast Track Surgery protocol in the performance of laparoscopic gastroplication in the proposed variant, especially in obese patients and patients with metabolic syndrome in the presence of gastroesophageal reflux disease, limiting the use of a number of surgical interventions, requiring the development of new, innovative approaches to planning the operation and predicting complications in  monitoring period. All dissertation work is carried out in accordance with the plan, with a quarterly monitoring of the scientific production of PhD at the cathedral meetings with the presentation of postgraduate reports at scientific and practical conferences both in Ukraine and abroad, taking into account their innovative character.

Currently, 2 young and prospective scientists are planning to enter the PhD study, which will increase the scientific priorities and educational attractiveness of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery and NMAPE in the sphere of education.
